Fastest Records In Cricket History

We often hear about the fastest ball, fastest century, and fastest 50 in cricket. Today we are gonna have a look at all of these fastest records in cricket history.

Fastest Fifty In International Cricket 

Yuvraj Singh has smashed the fastest 50 in international cricket. Yuvraj hit the fifty in just 12 balls against England in the 2007 T20 world cup, making 58 runs off 16 balls with the help of 7 huge sixes. Credit goes to Andrew Flintoff who sledged him just before Yuvraj smoked Stuart Broad for 6 sixes in an over. India won the match by 19 runs after England couldn’t chase the total of 219 runs. Yuvraj Singh’s fifty is also the fastest in the history of international T20.

Fastest Hundred In International T20I

South African middle-order batsman David Miller and Indian opener Rohit Sharma are the joint-fastest hundred scorers in T20 internationals. Miller scored the century in just 35 balls against Bangladesh in 2017 at Potchefstroom. Rohit also hit the fastest hundred in just 35 deliveries against Sri Lanka in 2017 at Indore. 

Fastest Century In Cricket History

South African hard hitter batsman AB DE Villers is the fastest century scorer in the history of professional cricket. AB hit the century against West Indies in 2015 at Johannesburg in just 31 balls in the 2nd ODI. In his innings of 149 runs, he smacked 10 sixes and 8 fours. Africa posted an unassessable target of 440 runs in 50 overs and won the match by 148 runs. AB De Villers is also the fastest century scorer in the ODIs.

AB DE Villers holds the record of hitting the fastest 50 in ODI (One Day International Cricket) cricket. AB made the fastest half-century in just 16 balls against West Indies at Johannesburg in 2015. He ended up scoring 149 in just 44 balls at a strike-rate of 338.64.

Fastest Century In Test Cricket

Former New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Brendon McCullum has made the fastest century in the history of test cricket. McCullum created the record by smashing the hundred in just 54 balls against Australia in 2016 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. In total, he notched up 145 runs off 79 balls, including 21 fours and 6 sixes at a strike-rate of 183.54.

Fastest Half-Century In Test Cricket 

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-Ul-Haq is the fastest half-century scorer in the history of Test cricket. Misbah scored 50 in just 21 balls against Australia in Abudhabi in 2014. He scored 101 off 168 balls in that innings.  Misbah also owns the record of scoring the most number of ODI runs without hitting a century. He has made 5122 runs in 162 ODI matches. 

Fastest 200 In Test Cricket

Ex Kiwi batsman Nathan Astle owns the record of smashing the fastest 200 in Test cricket history in just 153 balls. Astle achieved the feat in 2002 against England in Christchurch. Eventually, he got out after scoring 222 runs off 168 balls. He has held the record for 18 years now.

Fastest 200 In ODI Cricket

Caribbean explosive opener Chris Gayle has scored the fastest 200 in ODI history. Gayle notched up the 200 in just 138 balls against Zimbabwe at Manuka Oval, Canberra in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Earlier the record was held by Virender Sehwag, who hit the double-hundred in 140 balls against West Indies in 2011. 

Fastest Ball In ODI Cricket 

Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has bowled the fastest ball 161.3 km/hr in the history of ODI cricket. He clocked 161.3 against England in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. Akhtar is regarded as one of the ferocious bowlers the world has ever seen.

Fastest Ball In Test Cricket 

Mitchell Starc holds the record of bowling the fastest ball 160.4 km/hr in Test cricket history. He bowled at 160.4 km/hr in 2015 against New Zealand at Perth. Mitchell Starc has taken 252 wickets in 59 matches. 

Fastest Ball In T20 Cricket 

Shaun Tait has bowled the fastest ball 160.4 km/hr in T20 cricket history. He bowled the delivery in a T20 match against Pakistan at MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). He has bagged 28 wickets in 21 T20 matches.

Fastest 50 Wickets In ODI Cricket 

Mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis has taken the fastest 50 wickets in ODI cricket in just 19 matches. Mendis has grabbed 152 wickets in 87 ODI matches for Sri Lanka in his 7 years of ODI career (2008-2015).

Fastest 50 Wickets In Test Cricket

Australian fast bowler Charles Thomas Turner is the fastest bowler to take 50 wickets in Test cricket. He took 50 wickets in just 6 matches. Turner played 8 years (1887-1895) of test cricket for Australia and had 101 scalps in 17 matches.

Fastest 100 Wickets In ODI CricketFastest Records In Cricket

Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan is the fastest bowler to take 100 ODI wickets in just 44 matches. Rashid is one of the best bowlers in modern-day cricket.  He has taken 133 wickets in 70 ODI matches so far.

English paceman George Lohmann holds the record of taking the fastest 100 wickets in test cricket history, he achieved the feat in just 16 matches. Lohmann played for England from 1886 to 1896, bagged 112 wickets in 18 test matches.

Fastest 200 Wickets In ODI Cricket 

Pakistani legendary spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is the fastest bowler to grab 200 ODI wickets in just 104 matches. In his 8 years (1995-2003) ODI career he has taken 288 wickets in 168 ODI matches with an average of 21.8. 

Fastest 200 wickets in Test cricket 

Pakistani leggie Yasir Shah is the fastest bowler to take 200 test crickets in just 33 matches. He is currently one of the best spinners around. He has been representing Pakistan for 6 years now and has taken 227 wickets in 43 matches so far. He is also the joint-fastest  (17 matches) 100 wicket-taker in Tests.

Fastest 300 Wickets In ODI Cricket 

Former Aussie fast bowler Brett Lee is the fastest bowler to take 300 ODI wickets in just 171 matches. Brett is one of the swiftest bowlers to ever have been in the game. The Aussie quick has grabbed 380 wickets in 221 ODI matches for Australia in his 12 (2000-2012) years of career.

Muttiah Muralitharan owns the record of grabbing the fastest 500 test wickets in 87 test matches. Muralitharan achieved the feat in 2004. This man is a synonym of record.

Ajantha Mendis owns the record of taking the fastest 50 wickets in T20 international. He reached the milestone in just 26 matches.

Chris Gayle is the fastest century scorer in IPL (Indian Premier League) history. He smashed the century in just 30 balls in 2013 against Pune Warriors India playing for RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore). He ended the innings with 175 runs in 66 balls with the help of 17 sixes and 13 fours. 

Fastest IPL Half-Century

Indian swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul is the fastest half century in IPL against Delhi Capitals in 2018 in just 14 balls. He scored 51 off 16 balls in that match at a strike rate of 318.75.

Fastest BBL Century-Fastest Records In Cricket

CJ Simmons smashed the fastest BBL (Big Bash League) century in just 41 balls against Adelaide Strikers in 2014 at Perth. He scored the hundred with the assistance of 8 sixes.

Fastest 2000 and 3000 runs in Test

Sir Don Bradman is the fastest 2000 and 3000 run-getter in test cricket. He notched up 2000 and 3000 runs in just 15 matches (22 innings) and 23 matches (33 innings). Bradman’s Test average is 99.9, which is the highest ever in the history of tests. His record is now 72 years old (since 1948).

Fastest 5000 runs in ODI

Hashim Amla owns the record of making the fastest 5000 runs in ODIs. He achieved the feat in 104 matches only (101 innings). Amla has created a lot of records in ODI cricket in his 11 years of ODI career (2008-2019).

Fastest 5000 runs in test 

Australian legend Sir Don Bradman is the fastest 5000 run-scorer in tests. He attained the milestone in 36 matches (56 innings). 

Fastest 10000 runs in ODI

Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli is the fastest 10000 runs scorer in the history of ODI cricket. Virat Kohli took just 213 matches (205 innings) to reach the feat. He took 54 fewer innings than Sachin Tendulkar to make 10000 runs. He is probably the best ODI player the world has ever seen. He averages 59.3 in ODIs.

Fastest 10000 runs in test 

Ex stylish West Indian batsman Brian Lara is the fastest 10000 run-scorer in test cricket. He notched up 10000 runs in just 195 innings (111 matches). Brain Lara is one of the top three batsmen to ever play the game. Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara are also the joint-fastest 10000 run-scorers, who have reached the feat in 195 innings.

Fastest 1000 runs in T20

Current Pakistan captain Babar Azam has made the fastest 1000 runs in T20 international in just 26 matches in 2018. Azam is currently the no 1 T20 batsman and has been impressive across all formats since his debut in 2015. He has made 1681 runs in 44 matches so far in T20s.

Fastest 2000 runs in T20

Indian captain Virat Kohli is the fastest 2000 runs scorer in T20 international. He has accomplished the feat in just 56 innings (60 matches). Virat has scored 2928 runs in 85 matches with an average of 50.5 till now. 

Fastest 1000 runs in IPL

Shaun Marsh is the fastest 1000 runs scorer in IPL history. He took just 21 innings to get the milestone. He has made 2477 runs in 71 matches in 9 years (2009-2017) of his IPL career with a strike rate of 132.

Fastest 3000 runs in IPL
