Irish quick bowler Boyd Rankin bid adieu to 14 years long praiseworthy international cricket today. Rankin made his international debut for Ireland in 2007 and continued to play till march 2020. Rankin has taken 106 wickets in 75 ODI matches, and 55 wickets in 50 ODI matches. Rankin has played 10 international matches for England also. He played his first T20 match against New Zealand for England in 2013. He has also played a test match for England in the 2013-14 Ashes series. Ryan was also a part of Ireland’s first-ever test match against Pakistan in 2018.
Boyd made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in 2006. He played there for one more year. But later on, Rankin represented Warwickshire in the County cricket for 10 years (2008-2018). Boyd’s first-class career is also pretty impressive, he has bagged 352 wickets in 108 matches with a decent bowling average of 26.46.
After the retirement, Rankin said- “I never dreamt I would play for Ireland as much as I did and to travel the world playing in numerous World Cups and to pull on the Irish jersey is something I will never forget.”
He further added- “To retire from international cricket is always a tough call, but I feel now is the right time to step away,” Rankin said in a statement. “I have put my heart and soul into playing cricket professionally since 2003 and have loved every minute of it.
