ICC Champions Trophy is the second most popular ICC tournament after the ICC Cricket World Cup. It happens once every 4 years. It’s a one-day international series conducted by ICC. The inaugural edition of the Champions Trophy was hosted by Bangladesh. Earlier the name of the Champions Trophy was ICC Knockout Trophy. Like the World Cup, every team craves to win the tournament and increase the charm of their trophy cabinet. Most likely India is gonna host the next Champions Trophy in 2022. Jamaican cricketer Chris Gayle holds the record for scoring the most runs (791) in the ICC Champions Trophy. It’s strange to see but true,  Because he doesn’t score consistently. Chris Gayle has played 5 Champions Trophies for West Indies. Gayle has changed the course of opening the batting in cricket with his aggressive batting and is considered one of the best openers to ever play the game.

Former West Indian batsman Philo Wallace notched up the most number of runs (221) in the Champions Trophy 1998 in Bangladesh. Wallace has only played 33 ODIs for West Indies and it was probably the best achievement of his career. He had the best strike-rate among all players at the 1998 Champions Trophy.

Current Indian limited-over opener Shikhar Dhawan notched up the most number of runs (363) in the Champions Trophy 2013. He has done really well in the ICC tournaments for India. The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy was Shikhar’s first ICC tournament and he ended up winning the tournament for India. He also had the highest batting average (90.75) among batsmen. His persistence and consistency led India to wear the crown after 11 years.

Shikhar Dhawan scored the most number of runs (338) in the Champions Trophy 2017. Dhawan is the only player to score the highest run in the Champions Trophy for the 2nd time in a row. Although Shikhar’s effort was not adequate for India to win the tournament, India lost the finals against Pakistan in England. His average was 67.60, while he progressed at a strike rate of 101.80. Dhawan is the only player to win the Golden Bat award two consecutive times.
