Most Runs In IPL By A Player

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has scored the most number of runs (5878) in the history of IPL. Virat has been part of 13 IPL seasons (2008-2020) so far for RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore). He has just gotten better with every passing year. His game consisted of class and pure cricketing shots. The all-format player has given everything for his team every time he has been on the ground. And IPL has definitely enhanced Kohi’s T20 game.

Most Runs In IPL 2008 

Australian opener Shaun Marsh amassed the most number of runs (616) in the IPL 2008. Marsh played for Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural edition of IPL. Marsh’s great run with the bat helped KXIP to reach the semi-finals. He also hit the most number of fifties in the 2008 IPL season. Marsh also had the highest average (68.44) among the cricketers playing more than 10 matches. Shaun Marsh is the first Orange cap winner of IPL.

Most Runs In IPL 2009

Former Australian southpaw Matthew Hayden scored the most number of runs (572) in the IPL 2009. Hayden was a part of the CSK (Chennai Super Kings) squad throughout his IPL career. Hayden was already a very explosive batsman in international cricket. So, he did no different in IPL. He had the highest average (52) in the 2nd edition of IPL. Hayden also smashed the most number (5) of half-centuries in that season.

Most Runs In IPL 2010

The highest run-scorer in the history of international cricket, Sachin Tendulkar notched up the most number of runs (618) in the IPL 2010. 

Only one lucky franchise held Tendulkar in his IPL career that was Mumbai Indians. Sachin had a unique record of smacking the most number of boundaries (86) in that season. Tendulkar proved that you don’t have to play big shots in order to be the highest run-getter in an IPL season and of course, his class spoke louder in the 3rd season.

West Indian giant Chris Gayle made the most number of runs (608) in the IPL 2011. Finally, in the 4th IPL season, the T20 specialist did own the Orange Cup. Gayle was incredible throughout the season for RCB. Gayle hammered the bowlers with a strike rate of 183.13, which was the highest by any batsman in 2011 IPL. He also scored 2 centuries in that season.

For the second consecutive time, Chris Gayle amassed the most number of runs (733) in the IPL 2012. Gayle hit 59 sixes in the 2012 season, which is the highest by any batsman in the history of IPL in a single edition. Gayle became the first player to win Orange Cap twice in IPL.

Kohli’s 973 runs is the highest run by an individual in a single season of IPL. Virat’s 4 tons in the 2016 IPL is also the most by any player in a single edition of IPL. He averaged 81.08 in the 9th IPL season.
