Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most in world cup history. Sachin has played 6 World Cups so far (1992-2011). He is regarded as one of the best batsmen to ever play the game. In World Cup cricket history Tendulkar has played more than 40 matches and scored more than 2000 runs. He was also the Man of the Series in the 2003 World Cup with 673 runs in 11 matches, which is also the highest run by any batsman in a single Cricket WC.

Most Runs In 1975 World Cup

Former Kiwi batsman Glenn Turner accumulated the most runs in the maiden Cricket WC in 1975, 333 runs in 4 matches. Averaging 166.50, he had hit two tons in the competition, which was the most by any batsman. His best score of 171* came against East Africa at Birmingham in 201 balls. From the 1975 to 1983 World Cup, matches used to be played for 50 overs per innings. 

Most Runs In 1979 WC

West Indian legend Gordon Greenidge topped the chart in terms of making the most runs in the 1979 World Cup. The right-hand batsman amassed 253 runs in 4 matches with an impressive average of 84.33. Gordon scored his best in the event against India at Birmingham, 106* off 173 balls. Having a great competition with the bat, he won the World Cup for the 2nd consecutive time with West Indies. 

Highest Runs In 1983 World Cup

One of the best batsmen of the 90s era, David Gower finished the 1983 World Cup being the highest run-scorer. He scored 384 runs in 7 matches, averaging 76.80 in the tournament. 1 century and 1 half-century also came from his bat but England got eliminated in the Semi-finals against India.

India hosted the 1987 World Cup and for the first time, England was not organizing the World Cup. English cricketer Graham Gooch scored the most runs in this World Cup, 471 runs in 8 matches with a fascinating average of 58.87. The 1987 World Cup was the first 50 over World Cup. His great form was not enough for England to wear the crown as they got thrashed by Australia in the Final. 

Most Runs In 1992 World Cup

The 5th edition of the World Cup was hosted by Australia. Kiwi star batsman Martin Crowe made the most runs in the 1992 World Cup, 456 runs in 9 matches. He had a great event with the bat, smacking 1 hundred and 4 fifties. But Pakistan beat New Zealand in the semi-final and pushed them out of the tournament.

Ex Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was the most number of runs scorer in the 1996 WC. He made 523 runs in 7 matches with an average of 87.16. He made the runs with the help of 2 hundred and 3 50s. He was absolutely phenomenal in that World Cup. Despite Sachin’s great run with the bat India ended up in the 4th Position in the tournament.

Former Indian great Rahul Dravid scored the most runs in Cricket World Cup 1999. Dravid made 461 runs in 8 matches with an average of 65.86. He also smashed 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries. In that World Cup India got knocked out in the super-six stage. Dravid’s best was 145 against Srilanka in the group stage at Taunton.

Most Runs In World Cup 2003

Sachin Tendulkar was the most runs scorer in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. For the second time in the World Cup Sachin scored the highest 673 runs in 11 matches with an average of 61.18 and strike rate of 89.25. He hit six 50s and 1 hundred in the tournament. His highest score was 152 against Namibia.

Most Runs In 2007 ICC Cricket WC

Ex Australian opener Matthew Hayden notched up the most number of runs in the World Cup. Hayden made 659 runs in 11 matches with an average of 73.22. He made a total of 3 centuries and 1 half-century. His highest score in the tournament came up against West Indies in the quarter-final off 143 balls. 

Most Run Scorer In WC 2011

Former Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan made the most number of runs in the 2011 World Cup. He scored 500 runs in 9 matches with an average of 62.50. Dilshan scored 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries in the tournament. His best in the tournament was 144 against Zimbabwe in 131 balls. 

Most Runs In WC 2011 By A Indian Player

Sachin Tendulkar notched up the most number of runs in the World Cup 2011 (by an Indian player). He scored 482 runs in 9 matches with an average of 53.55, including 2 hundred and 2 half-centuries. His highest score was 120 runs in 115 balls against England.

Kiwi opener Martin Guptill was the most number of runs scorer in the 2015 cricket WC. He scored 547 runs in 9 matches with an average of 68.37. He had 2 centuries and 1 half-century in the tournament. He smashed the highest individual score (237*) of the 2015 World Cup against the West Indies. 

Highest Run Scorer In World Cup 2019

Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma notched up the most number of runs in the 2019 Cricket WC. He scored 648 runs in 9 matches with an average of 81. He scored 5 centuries and 1 half-century in the tournament. His best score was 140 against Pakistan in 113 balls. Sharma holds the record of smashing most number of centuries in a single World cup by an individual batsman.
