India has the most number (52) of cricket stadiums in the world. But currently, the number of active international stadiums are 23. The first international match was played in 1933 between India and England at Bombay Gymkhana ground and CK Nayudu. India hosted its first ODI match at Sardar Vallabhbhai stadium in 1981 against England. Brabourne stadium of Mumbai was the first stadium to host a T20I and India faced Australia in 2007. Narendra Modi Stadium

The Narendra Stadium of Ahmedabad is the largest in the world with a seating capacity of 132000. It is located in the Sardar Vallabhbhai Sports enclave, Gujarat. This stadium hosts ODI, test, and T20 matches for India. Narendra Modi Stadium will host matches of 2021 T20 World Cup also. It is also one of the best stadiums in the world. Earlier MCG (Melbourne Cricket ground) was the largest cricket stadium in terms of capacity. Mostly dry and dead pitches are made here.

Eden Gardens

The Eden Gardens is the second-largest cricket stadium in the world in terms of seating capacity (80000). “The Mecca of cricket” is situated in Kolkata. Eden is India’s second-largest and the world’s third-largest cricket stadium. This international ground has so far hosted 42 test matches (which is most by any ground in India), 30 ODI matches, and 7 T20 matches. India’s first pink-ball match was also played in the iconic Eden gardens from 22-24 November. This stadium witnessed the grand final of the 2016 T20 World Cup between West Indies and England, where Carlos Braithwaite hit 4 sixes in 4 balls in the last over in the pursuit of 19 in the last over to wear the crown. The Cricket Association of Bengal’s main ground is Eden Gardens. This is India’s one of few grounds, where green wickets are made. The famous Sourav Ganguly end is in this exotic ground.

Rajiv Gandhi International Ground

The Rajib Gandhi international stadium of Hyderabad is the third largest cricket stadium of India on the basis of seating capacity (55000). This stadium is Hyderabad Cricket Association’s headquarter. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s home ground is Rajiv Gandhi stadium. So far the ground has hosted 5 tests, 6 ODIs, and 2 T20s. To felicitate VVS Laxman one end has been named VVS Laxman end.

MA Chidambaram Stadium

The MA Chidambaram stadium, which is also known as Chepauk Stadium is the 4th largest cricket stadium (54000) in India. Chepauk is called “the Lord’s of India”. This ground is based in Chennai. The great Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most number of test runs (876) at this venue than any other venue in India. This ground is popular for making dry wickets, which is suitable for spin bowling. 34 test, 22 ODI, and 2 T20 international matches so far. 

JSCA International Cricket Stadium

The JSCA (Jharkhand State Cricket Association) International stadium is the 5th largest (50000) stadium in India. The construction of this ground was finished in 2013. The end of this ground has been named after former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. This stadium has hosted 2 tests, 5 ODIs, and 1 T20 match till now. 

Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium

Arun Jaitley cricket stadium, which is in Delhi is one of the most popular international venues in India. The seating capacity of this ground is 41820. 

Arun Jaitley stadium was previously known as Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. This ground is used as the home ground of Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Anil Kumble took 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan in 1999. Arun Jaitley ground has hosted the 2nd most number of ODI games (25) in India. 

Wankhede Stadium

The Wankhede stadium is one of the most prominent stadiums in India with a seating capacity of 33108. The stadium is located in Mumbai. Some great Indian cricketer’s Stands are named after them like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Vijay Merchant. Sunil Gavaskar has amassed 1122 runs in this ground. In this historic stadium, India won the 2011 World Cup final. So far Wankhede ground has hosted 24 tests, 22 ODIs, and 7 T20 matches. This stadium is Mumbai Indian’s home ground in the IPL.

Chinnaswamy Stadium

The Bengaluru-based Chinnaswamy stadium is one of the best stadiums in India. The total number of seats on the ground is 40000. In this venue, the most number of ODI matches has been played (26). Anil Kumble has bagged the most number of Test wickets (41) on this ground. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s home ground is this stadium. One of the best batting turfs are made on this ground.

Dharamshala Cricket Stadium

The Dharamshala Cricket Stadium (Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium) is the world’s highest cricket stadium, located at Dharamshala of Himachal Pradesh at 1487 altitude from sea level. The seating capacity of the stadium is 23000. The mountains are visible from this ground, which makes this stadium heaven on earth. 1 test, 4 ODIs, and 7 T20 matches have been played here till now. The pitches of the ground are pace bowler-friendly. 

Punjab Cricket Association Stadium

The Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium is one of the most used venues in India. The seating capacity of the stadium is 26001. The ground is in Mohali, Punjab. The 1996 and 2011 World Cup semi-final were played on this ground. Rohit Sharma hit his 2nd ODI double hundred here, 208 against Sri Lanka in 2017. This ground has witnessed 13 tests, 25 ODIs, and 5 T20s.
