CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan’s Post-Match Chat With Dhoni Sparks Retirement Rumors As Shaun Pollock Weighs In.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a major blow in the 2025 IPL season, getting knocked out of the playoff race after a decisive loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS). The defeat not only ended CSK’s hopes for another title but also reignited speculation around MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL.
After the match, cameras caught CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stopping Dhoni for a brief conversation. While both appeared in good spirits, fans and analysts were quick to interpret the moment as a potential sign of Dhoni’s impending retirement.
Dhoni, 43, re-assumed the captaincy following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury and led the side through a challenging season. CSK managed just four wins from ten games, placing them near the bottom of the IPL 2025 standings. When asked about his plans for next year, Dhoni responded with a smile:
“I don’t know. I’m coming for the next game.”
The cryptic response has only fueled more speculation.
Shaun Pollock, former South African cricketer and commentator, believes Dhoni may not return for the next season, suggesting that CSK might build around Gaikwad moving forward.
“They don’t need him next year,” Pollock commented.
However, Adam Gilchrist, ex-Australian wicketkeeper, took a more respectful stance:
“If he wants to play, he plays. Simple as that.”
Gilchrist emphasized that Dhoni’s legacy and stature in the league give him the final say on his retirement.
As CSK prepares for their final games of the season, all eyes will remain on MS Dhoni—a legend whose every move hints at a future that fans aren’t quite ready to let go.
