Former Indian World Cup-winning captain Kapil Said – “ SPLIT CAPTAINCY CAN’T WORK IN OUR CULTURE, a company can’t have two CEO”. He has given the red light to the BCCI for the split captaincy of India.

A controversy has erupted since the time Indian opener and Mumbai Indians captain has won the title of IPL for the 5th time in his 7 years of captaincy. Many former players are in favor of giving the T20 captaincy to Rohit Sharma ahead of Virat Kohli. Virat has been captaining the side in all three formats since 2017.

According to Kapil Dev,” in our culture split captaincy won’t work. Because a company can only lead by one person at a time. If Virat is gonna play the shortest format he is capable enough to captain the side.” Moreover the former captain Kapil Dev wants other players to come out and showcase their skill as well. But it is hard to split the leadership across all formats. Kapil added “India has almost the same team in all formats. So it will create a contradiction between players. Because every captain has their own way to lead a team. So players might wonder that the same captain should captain me in all formats in order to make them more productive. He mentioned all these in a virtual conference held on 20th November.

The World Cup winner lately went through heart surgery after suffering a heart attack.

The former 61 years old Indian cricketer also talked about bowling in IPL also. He is not in favor of bowling too many variations in IPL. in IPL bowlers are leaning towards executing too many slower and cross-seam Deliveries instead of seam up bowling. He lauded Indian pacer, Sandeep Sharma, for his outstanding swing bowling termed him as “tough”.  He said if the fast bowlers can’t swing the ball then Variation is useless.  Kapil gave the instances of great bowlers (Glenn Mcgrath, Wasim Akram, Botham, headly).

The great all-rounder also praised Indian current pace bowling line up which is consisted of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami. He is delighted to see Indian speedsters dominate everywhere they go. There was a time when every team used to mock the Indian bowling lineup as they were not able to take 20 wickets in a test match. But now every team is scared of the Indian fast bowling line up and they don’t want to give them a bouncy wicket very often.

Kapil also shared his elongated tension about Test Cricket which he thinks is being faded away because of the vogue of T20 cricket. He said “Franchise cricket is ok but Test cricket shouldn’t die due to T20 Cricket. IPL has given us strength and helped us to find talent. And best players also come to play IPL which increases the charm of the best Franchise League in the world. We have to improve our first-class cricket more, we shouldn’t forget our culture. He concluded with whoever wins the India-Australia Test series, India should aim to win the World Test Championship.
