Salary Of England Cricket Players

England Cricket Team is currently one of the best all-format teams in the world and they are one of those teams that keeps the format on the top of their priority list. Being the innovator of the game, England played the first-ever international game in 1877 against Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The wages of cricketers in English cricket have always been decent due to the huge involvement of the audience in almost every game. After England’s debacle in the 2015 World Cup in Australia, the England Cricket Board brought some massive changes to their way of managing the team. They introduced separate teams for each format, only 2-3 cricketers play all three formats. This development increased the salary of the players too.

Different Salary Contracts of England Cricket Players

There are four types of contracts for the cricketers in the England Cricket Board- Three, two, and one-year central contracts and development contract. The board reviews and revises the contract every September.

Central Salary Contracts of England Cricket Players

Central contracts are given to those players whose workload and availability in county cricket or other franchise leagues in the globe are decided by England Board staff. The cricketers who represent England in all three formats, particularly in T20Is, tests, or ODIs regularly are supposed to get a central contract.

The ECB introduced separate deals for white and red ball cricket in 2016 while a few players appeared on both lists. However, in 2021, the players representing all three formats started getting the full deals. Later in 2023, the board had to bring brand new multi-year contracts due to the surge and craze of lucrative franchise leagues.

The Development contract is offered to the players who are new to the highest level and have not proved themselves in all formats of the game or particularly in any format. Most of the time, emerging English fast bowlers get this deal so that the ECB can monitor their workload and improvement amid busy schedules.

An estimated sum of 800000-900000 pounds is paid to a player for red-ball and white-ball cricket.
