Prithvi Shaw Seeks NOC from Mumbai Cricket Association, Eyes Move to New State Team

India batter Prithvi Shaw has officially requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), signaling his intent to leave the domestic giants ahead of the 2025–26 Indian domestic season. The 25-year-old opener is reportedly considering offers from multiple state associations and is looking for a fresh start after a prolonged absence from top-level cricket.

Shaw Set to End Mumbai Stint

MCA secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed Shaw’s formal NOC request and stated that the association plans to approve it shortly. If granted, Shaw will be eligible to represent another state team in the upcoming domestic calendar, marking a significant shift in his career path.

Shaw has been a key figure in Mumbai cricket, having scored 2,648 runs in 32 first-class matches at an average of 49.03. However, a combination of injuries, fitness issues, and lack of form has kept him out of Mumbai’s squads since December 2024.

Injury Setbacks and Form Dip

Earlier this year, Shaw was omitted from both Ranji Trophy and white-ball squads due to concerns over his fitness and form. He had also suffered a knee ligament injury in 2024, further delaying his return. Although he was added back to the Ranji squad in June 2025, his struggles with consistency and lack of game time seem to have prompted his decision to explore opportunities elsewhere.

Multiple Offers on the Table

According to reports, three to four state associations have approached Shaw. Among them, Maharashtra appears to be a leading contender. The potential move would not only offer him more playing time but could also revive his hopes of returning to the national setup, from which he has been absent since 2021.

IPL Setback

Shaw’s stock also took a hit in the IPL 2025 auction, where he went unsold. That, combined with his domestic form, has made his career trajectory uncertain. A new state team could provide the platform he needs to reset and rebuild.
