IPL 2027 Schedule: What We Know So Far
Quick answer: The full IPL 2027 schedule has not been released yet. IPL 2027 will be the 20th season of the Indian Premier League, with 10 teams and 74 matches. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in June 2026 that the board is looking at an earlier window, tentatively 10 March to 15 May 2027, to avoid peak summer heat; some later reports point to a 14 March start and a late-May final. The player auction is set for 16 December 2026 in Goa. We will add every fixture, date and venue here as soon as the BCCI announces them.
IPL 2027 Key Dates
| Event | Date | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Retention and trade deadline | Mid-November 2026 (15 Nov last cycle) | Date not yet announced |
| IPL 2027 player auction (mini-auction) | 16 December 2026, Goa | Reported; franchises told to prepare |
| Final Border-Gavaskar Test (India vs Australia) | 27 Feb – 3 Mar 2027, Ahmedabad | Scheduled; affects player availability early in the season |
| IPL 2027 opening match | Around 10–14 March 2027 | Tentative |
| Playoffs and final | Mid to late May 2027 | Tentative |
The earlier start is the big change. For years the IPL has run from late March to late May or early June. Saikia said playing deep into May is “not very conducive” for players or crowds because of the heat, and pre-monsoon rain can also hit late-May playoffs. The match count stays at 74 for 2027; an expansion to 94 matches has been discussed but could only come from 2028 at the earliest.

Last Season: IPL 2026 Schedule and Results
IPL 2026 recap: the 19th season ran from 28 March to 31 May 2026. Ten teams played 74 matches, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, to win their second title in a row. Below are the final points table, the playoffs, all 74 results, captains, venues and award winners.
IPL 2026 Format and Dates
The same ten franchises returned from 2025. They were drawn into two groups: Group A had Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, and Group B had Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Each team played the teams in its own group once and the teams in the other group twice, so every side had 14 league matches (70 in total). The top four on points moved into the playoffs: the top two met in Qualifier 1, the next two in the Eliminator, and the Eliminator winner played the Qualifier 1 loser in Qualifier 2 for the second place in the final.
The season started on 28 March 2026 and finished with the final on 31 May 2026, after 74 matches across 13 venues. The fixtures were released in two parts because of state assembly elections in several states.

| 2 | Gujarat Titans (Runners-up) | 14 | 9 | 5 | 0 | 18 | +0.695 |
| 3 | Sunrisers Hyderabad | 14 | 9 | 5 | 0 | 18 | +0.524 |
| 4 | Rajasthan Royals | 14 | 8 | 6 | 0 | 16 | +0.189 |
| 5 | Punjab Kings | 14 | 7 | 6 | 1 | 15 | +0.309 |
| 6 | Delhi Capitals | 14 | 7 | 7 | 0 | 14 | -0.651 |
| 7 | Kolkata Knight Riders | 14 | 6 | 7 | 1 | 13 | -0.147 |
| 8 | Chennai Super Kings | 14 | 6 | 8 | 0 | 12 | -0.345 |

| 10 | Lucknow Super Giants | 14 | 4 | 10 | 0 | 8 | -0.740 |
P = played, W = won, L = lost, NR = no result, Pts = points, NRR = net run rate. RCB, GT and SRH all finished on 18 points, so net run rate decided the top three places. The only washout of the league stage was Match 12, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings, which ended with no result because of rain.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru took the direct route to the final: a huge 92-run win over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 sent them straight through. Rajasthan Royals knocked out Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, but Gujarat Titans beat them by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 to set up a rematch of Qualifier 1. In the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat made 155/8 and RCB chased it down in 18 overs, with Virat Kohli unbeaten on 75 off 42 balls and named Player of the Match.
