Kagiso Rabada Cleared to Play After Suspension for Drug Violation.
South Africa’s pace bowler Kagiso Rabada has been cleared by SAIDS to return to cricket after completing a one-month suspension for a recreational drug violation.
South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been officially cleared to return to cricket after serving a one-month suspension for testing positive for a recreational drug. The announcement was made on May 5, 2025, by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS).
The 29-year-old speedster, who tested positive during South Africa’s domestic T20 league in January, has completed a mandatory substance abuse treatment program. Rabada had voluntarily admitted to the violation and expressed remorse for his actions.
“I am deeply sorry to all those that I have let down. I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted,” Rabada said in a public statement.
Following his suspension, Rabada returned from the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he was representing the Gujarat Titans, to undergo rehabilitation in South Africa.
With his eligibility reinstated, Rabada is now available for selection in both the IPL and the highly anticipated ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia, scheduled for June 11–15 at Lord’s Cricket Ground. South Africa’s final squad must be submitted by May 12.
Cricket South Africa has expressed its support for Rabada, reinforcing its stance on a drug-free sport while acknowledging the player’s commitment to professional conduct moving forward.
This development marks a significant boost for South Africa as they gear up for a crucial international fixture, with Rabada’s pace and experience expected to be vital.
