Not only once, but the batting ace has been the highest ODI run-getter 5 times in his career. 

Sourav Ganguly 

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly finds himself in 2nd place on the elite list of most ODI runs in a calendar year. The Southpaw amassed 1767 runs in 41 matches in 1999 at a decent average of 46.50. Sourav even scored his career-best 183 off 158 balls in the 1999 World Cup in Taunton against Sri Lanka. The Indian stalwart could not touch the monumental numbers without the 4 hundred and 10 fifties. 

Rahul Dravid

The current head coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid gets the 3rd spot in terms of getting the most ODI runs in a calendar year with 1761 runs in 43 matches in 1999. Despite being tagged as a test cricketer, Dravid displayed an excellent piece of batting that year, averaging 46.34. The gentleman veteran even was the highest run scorer in the 1999 World Cup, aggregating 461 runs in 8 matches. Dravid surpassed the 100 runs mark 6 times in his golden year. 

Sachin Tendulkar 

Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar is once again featured in 4th position on the honorable most ODI runs in a calendar year list. Tendulkar achieved this milestone in 1996, accumulating a massive 1611 runs in 32 matches in that season. Tendulkar added 6 centuries and 9 half-centuries to his record book. His highest score of 137 came against Sri Lanka in the 1996 World Cup in Delhi. 

Matthew Hayden 

The two times World Cup winner, Matthew Hayden made 1601 runs in 32 matches in 2007 which is the 5th most runs in ODI in a calendar year. Hayden batted tremendously in the 2007 World Cup and ended as the highest run-scorer with 659 runs in 10 innings. Hayden’s 3 out of 5 centuries in ODI came in the World Cup itself.
