Afghanistan Unveils Squad for Asia Cup 2023

Afghanistan has declared its squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, a tournament that Pakistan and Sri Lanka are set to co-host. The squad reflects a few changes from the team that recently competed in a three-game ODI series against Pakistan.

Notable exclusions from the Asia Cup squad include Fareed Ahmad, Azmatullah Omarzai, Shahidullah Kamal, and Wafadar Momand. Unfortunately, Omarzai is sidelined due to a side strain injury sustained during the series against Pakistan. However, Afghanistan’s squad sees the return of Karim Janat, Najibullah Zadran, and Sharafuddin Ashraf, who are making their comebacks to the team.

With these changes, Afghanistan is gearing up to participate in the Asia Cup with a mix of experienced and emerging talents as they compete against other top cricketing nations in the tournament. Afghanistan’s batting lineup for the upcoming Asia Cup will feature Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran as the opening pair.

The middle order will be anchored by Riaz Hassan, Mohammad Nabi, the team’s captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Najibullah Zadran.In terms of their bowling department, Afghanistan boasts a strong spin contingent consisting of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, and Mujeeb ur Rahman.

On the pace front, left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi will spearhead the attack; Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Abdul Rahman, and Mohammad Saleem are among the players providing support.With this well-rounded squad, Afghanistan aims to put up a strong performance in the Asia Cup, leveraging their diverse batting and bowling options to contend against the competition and make their mark in the tournament.
