Dav Whatmore was appointed as Nepal National Cricket team’s head coach

Dav Whatmore was appointed as Nepal National Cricket team’s head coach on 17th December. Dave is a Srilankan born Australian cricketer who has played 7 test matches and 1 ODI for Australia. 

Nepal Cricket Board has elected him as the head coach because they failed to qualify for the 2021 T20 World Cup which will be held in India but they want to make sure that they qualify for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

“Dave is extremely keen to take on this challenge, as he strongly believes Nepal has great talent and a bright future in international cricket.” the Nepal Cricket Board said in an interview on Thursday.

Whatmore has coached International teams like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe in the past.

Dave was the coach of the 1996 World cup winning team and he also assisted Bangladesh to get into the quarter-final in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. He also coached Kolkata Knight Riders for 2 seasons and steered Kerala to the semi-final in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy.
