India wrapped up their 2026 Asian Games campaign in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with 85 medals – 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze – after a five-gold haul on Saturday, October 3, lifted them to fourth place on the medal table. The Games close on Sunday, October 4, but India’s athletes have no further events.

A golden Saturday in five different sports

India’s last competition day turned out to be their best of the Games. The men’s cricket team retained their title by beating Pakistan by 19 runs in the final, and a few hours later the men’s hockey team thrashed Malaysia 5-1 to defend their gold and book a place at the LA 2028 Olympics.

Away from the team sports, three individual golds made history or added to big reputations:

  • Kumkum Mohod (archery) beat South Korea’s Oh Yejin in the women’s individual recurve final, becoming the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games individual recurve gold.
  • Pranavi Urs (golf) became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games golf gold, taking the individual title in Nagoya. India’s women also collected team silver.
  • Aman Sehrawat (wrestling), the Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist, won the men’s 57kg freestyle gold.

How the 2026 haul compares

The 85-medal total is India’s second-best at an Asian Games, behind only the record haul at Hangzhou, where India won 28 golds. It falls short of that peak, but the spread of golds across team sports, combat sports, archery, golf and athletics shows how broad India’s base has become.

  • 21 gold medals
  • 27 silver medals
  • 37 bronze medals
  • 85 medals in total – fourth on the overall table

Earlier highlights and LA 2028 spots

Saturday’s finish built on a strong second week. The women’s hockey team ended a 44-year wait by beating China 1-0 for gold, Lovlina Borgohain won 75kg boxing gold, Sujeet Kalkal produced a dramatic comeback for wrestling gold, and India swept the three compound archery team events. The athletics squad also delivered a big share of the medals – see our Asian Games athletics round-up for the full list.

Gold for both hockey teams also secured their places at the LA 2028 Olympics. Follow more coverage in our Olympics & Athletics section.
