Litton Das Appointed Bangladesh’s T20I Captain Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026.
In a major move ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially named Litton Das as the national T20I captain. The announcement was made on May 4, 2025, following Najmul Hossain Shanto’s decision to step down from T20I captaincy to focus on workload management across formats.
Why Litton Das?
Litton Das has emerged as one of Bangladesh’s most consistent performers and a natural leader. His recent success as stand-in captain—most notably leading Bangladesh to a historic 3-0 T20I series whitewash against the West Indies in December 2024—solidified his credentials as a long-term skipper.
What’s Next for Litton Das?
Litton’s first assignment as full-time T20I captain will be the upcoming home series against the UAE, followed by a highly anticipated series against Pakistan. These matches will serve as key preparation for building a strong squad ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
“We believe Litton brings the right mix of experience, composure, and tactical understanding,” a BCB official said. “This is a long-term strategy as we gear up for the global tournaments ahead.”
Leadership Transition
The leadership handover follows Najmul Hossain Shanto’s recent comments about managing his form and workload. While he remains a vital part of Bangladesh’s cricket setup, the shift allows the team to develop under fresh leadership in the shortest format.
Why This Matters
This move signals Bangladesh’s intention to re-strategize and build momentum with a forward-thinking approach in T20 cricket. With Litton Das at the helm, fans and analysts alike are hopeful for a rejuvenated team ready to challenge the world’s best.
