Ricky Ponting
The player who is regarded as the best captain of all time, Ricky Ponting tops the list of most ODI wins as captain. Ponting began his captaincy tenure in 2002 and has 165 wins out of 230 matches at a staggering win percentage of 76.14. A great batsman cum leader, Ricky guided Australia to win two most important matches, the final of the 2003 World Cup against India & final of the 2007 World Cup against Sri Lanka.
MS Dhoni
India’s longest ODI skipper who served for 10 long years (2007-2017), MS Dhoni cements 2nd place on the most ODI wins as captain tally. Having led India in 200 ODIs, Dhoni registered 110 wins at a decent win percentage of 59.52. The Ranchi boy ended India’s drought of 28 years of winning a World Cup in 2011 at Wankhede stadium when he chased the 275 runs target in the final with his signature “Helicopter” shot six.
Allan Border
Australia’s maiden World Cup-lifting skipper, Allan Border finds himself in 3rd place in terms of having the most ODI wins as captain. Border’s Australia had 107 positive results in 178 appearances in ODI, maintaining a win % of 61.42.
Hansie Cronje
South Africa’s most successful captain, the late Hasnie Cronje has also made a cut on this elite chart of the most ODI wins as captain. One of the great all-rounders of the game, Cronje captained South Africa 138 times, while taking his team over the rope on 99 occasions. Hasnie Cronje is the only Proteas skipper to win an ICC trophy, the 1998 Champions Trophy in Bangladesh.
