Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket is one of the toughest places to score runs due to its testing condition. At times you may attack fast bowlers here but attacking spinners on friendly conditions is a bit tough. A batsman may score a run on a particular day however making a pile of runs throughout a season needs class, discipline, perseverance, and ability. A Plethora of players each year participate in the IPL but not everyone makes the most runs in a single IPL season, let’s gaze through the dominant batters.

Virat Kohli
The batting superstar who is only devoted to one franchise, Virat Kohli conquers the chart of most runs in a single IPL season. Till 2014, the Delhite boy had decent IPL stints, but 2016 turned out to be a game-changer for him, amassing 973 runs in 16 matches at an impressive average of 81.08. In that season, Kohli became the 1st batter to smash 4 centuries in the IPL, including his career-best of 113 off 50 balls against Punjab Kings. But regardless of Virat’s heroics the entire season, RCB lost the final to SRH.
Jos Buttler
The 2019 World Cup winner Jos Buttler finds 2nd place on the premium list of most runs in a single IPL season after a successful stint with the Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 IPL season. Being featured in all 17 matches, Buttler aggregated 863 runs at a dashing strike rate of 149.05 and a healthy average of 57.53. The English slogger left no stone unturned to bash the bowlers and leave them clueless, hence hitting 4 stunning centuries in the event. Nevertheless, destiny had another plan for him as Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan convincingly in the finals and Buttler had to be confined with the Orange Cap only.
David Warner
Australian stalwart David Warner is featured in the 3rd spot in getting the most runs in a single season of IPL with 848 runs in 17 games in 2016. Warner was giving shoulder-to-shoulder competition to Virat Kohli to bag the Orange cap, averaging a fascinating 60.57 along with a destructing 151.42 strike rate. Warner whacked 9 fifties in that season, which is the highest by a batsman in an IPL edition. The flamboyant Aussie opener was the highest run scorer for SRH in the final vs RCB with 69 off 38 deliveries, assisting them to lift their maiden title. Warner has been so good in the IPL that he bagged the Orange Cap award thrice so far (2015,2017& 2019).
Kane Williamson
One of the vital cogs of Sunrisers Hyderabad camp, spearhead Kane Williamson gets the 4th position in terms of notching up the most runs in IPL in a single season. Having played 17 games in 2018, the Kiwi veteran accumulated 735 runs at a commendable average of 52.50. Williamson broke the bank for runs by scoring in every appearance, including 8 fifty-plus scores. Despite having an illustrious season with the bat, Williamson failed to hold the silverware following an 8 wickets defeat against Chennai Super Kings.
Chris Gayle
The 2012 IPL edition was a hell of a season for Barbaric opener Chris Gayle. The Caribbean southpaw creamed a pile of 733 runs in 14 innings, striking at a dangerous 160.74 rate. With ease, Gayle bashed every bowler and smashed 7 fifties and a century. His supreme innings of 128* in 62 balls appeared against Delhi Daredevils, causing every bowler to concede more than 10 runs an over.Although his audacious efforts went in vain due to RCB’s early elimination in the group stage.
