Lovlina Borgohain won the women’s 75kg boxing gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Friday, October 2, beating China’s Bao Ziyi by a 5-0 unanimous decision. The victory came on her 29th birthday and made her only the second Indian woman to win an Asian Games boxing title, after MC Mary Kom at Incheon in 2014.

A clean sweep on the judges’ cards

All five judges scored the final in favour of the Indian, who stayed composed against an opponent looking to force the pace. Borgohain built her advantage in the opening two rounds and saw out the third without giving Bao a route back into the contest.

Her route to the final went through Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova, whom she beat in the semi-final to set up the title bout against Bao.

From Hangzhou silver to Aichi-Nagoya gold

The gold completes a turnaround from the previous edition of the Games. At Hangzhou, Borgohain reached the 75kg final but had to settle for silver. This time she went one better.

The result also ends a 12-year wait for Indian women’s boxing at the Asian Games. Mary Kom’s title at Incheon 2014 had been the country’s only women’s boxing gold at the event until Friday.

A packed day for India in Japan

Borgohain, a bronze medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, adds this continental title to a career that already includes world and Asian championship honours. Her gold opened a busy Friday for India’s boxers, with Parveen Hooda (women’s 65kg) and Ankush Panghal (men’s 80kg) also through to their gold-medal bouts later in the day. India’s women’s hockey team, meanwhile, were scheduled to play China in the final in the afternoon.
