Nepal Cricket team made many T20I Records at the Asian Games
Nepal’s men’s cricket team etched their name in the record books during their T20I match against Mongolia at the Asian Games cricket tournament in Hangzhou, China. Nepal achieved a historic feat by becoming the first team to breach the 300-run mark in T20 internationals, posting an incredible total of 314 for three in their allotted 20 overs. This extraordinary achievement shattered the previous record of 278 for three set by Afghanistan against Ireland in 2019. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has previously confirmed that the Asian Games matches will be given T20I status.
The star of the show was Kushal Malla, who occupied the number three position in Nepal’s batting order. Malla exhibited a breathtaking performance, broke David Miller and Rohit Sharma’s joint record to register the fastest-ever T20I hundred in just 34 balls; both batters had reached the three-figures in 35 deliveries. His explosive batting display left the Mongolian bowlers utterly helpless as he unleashed a barrage of boundaries, 8 fours and 12 sixes in his inning of 137* off 50 balls.
The astounding batting exhibition by Nepal didn’t stop with Kushal Malla’s record-breaking century. Dipendra Singh Airee, batting with a similar intensity, concluded the innings in an absolutely insane manner, crushing the hopeless Mongolian bowlers. Airee, in a breathtaking display of power-hitting, smashed eight sixes en route to an unbeaten 52 off just 10 deliveries. What’s even more mind-boggling is that Airee achieved his half-century in only nine balls, setting yet another world record. This remarkable feat surpassed the previous record held by India’s Yuvraj Singh, who reached his half-century in 12 balls against England in 2007.
As a result of Nepal’s astonishing batting performance, Mongolia’s quest to challenge the total proved futile. They were dismissed for a mere 41 runs, and Nepal won the game by a staggering margin of 273 runs, capping a historic and one-sided battle at the Asian Games.
