Virat Kohli 12000 runs in ODI is the fastest achieved milestone in Cricket history by any cricketer. Indian Skipper Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman to score 12000 runs in ODI cricket at Manuka Oval, Canberra in the 3rd ODI against Australia on 2nd December. During the match, Virat Kohli broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar which was captured by him for 17 years. With this milestone, Virat became the 6th player after Mahela Jayawardene (12650), Ricky Ponting (13704), Kumar Sangakkara (14234), and Sanath Jayasuriya (13430) to do so.
Virat Kohli achieved the feat in just 242 innings took 58 innings lesser than Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin Tendulkar scored 12000 ODI runs in 300 ODI innings.
Sachin Tendulkar has scored 18426 runs in 463 ODI matches with an average of 44.8. He has hit 49 centuries and 91 half-centuries in his ODI career.
Currently, Virat Kohli has made 12040 runs in 242 ODI innings with an average of 59.3 so far including 43 hundred & 60 half-centuries in just a span of 12 years.
Virat Kohli is also the fastest batsman to reach 8000 (175 innings), 9000 (194 innings), 10000 (205 innings), 11000 (222 innings) runs in ODI cricket.
Can Virat Kohli surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI record?
Sachin Tendulkar has 18426 runs in 463 ODI matches with an average of 44.8.
On the contrary, Virat Kohli has 12040 runs in 251 matches with an average of 59.3. If Virat notches up the run with the same average then it would take him 110 more innings to go past Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most numbers of run in ODI cricket.
Most probably Virat will break Sachin’s record of most hundreds(49) in ODI format. Virat already has 43 tons in his name in just 251 matches.
If Virat Kohli had scored a ton in the 3rd ODI in Canberra then he would have had 9 ODI centuries against Australia and he also equaled the record of Sachin Tendulkar (nine 100s). Virat Kohli was sent back to the dugout for 63 runs in 76 balls off Josh Hazlewood’s delivery.
