ICC Champions Trophy Winners List Year Wise(1998-2025)

The International Cricket Council introduced the ICC Champions Trophy or the “Mini World Cup” back in 1998 for the first time to raise funds for non-test playing cricket nations. This ICC event used to occur every four years till 2017 but afterward, it was discontinued due to the introduction of the World Test Championship and tight ICC schedules. The first-ever edition was won by South Africa by beating West Indies in the finals. So far, eight editions of this marquee event have been completed and the 2025 Champions Trophy is all set to be held in Pakistan in February-March. 1998 ICC Champions Trophy winner

South Africa won the 1998 Champions Trophy after defeating West Indies by four wickets in Dhaka. There were seven games in total and it started from the quarter-finals with eight teams India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, and Australia. Jacques Kallis was the pick of the bowlers in the event with 8 wickets while Indies batter Philo Wallace was the top run scorer with 221 runs. 

2000 ICC Champions Trophy Winner 

The Champions Trophy 2000 was hosted by Kenya from 3rd to 15th October. The same eight teams as the last version participated in the event and New Zealand lifted the trophy after beating India by four wickets in Nairobi on the back of Chris Cairns 102* off 113 balls. India players were on the roll in the event as Sourav Ganguly made the most runs with 348 runs and Venkatesh Prasad finished as the highest wicket-taker (8). 

2002 ICC Champions Trophy Winner

Team India and Sri Lanka jointly won the 2002 Champions Trophy as the final was washed out in Colombo. This time twelve teams played in the tournament in 15 games. The semi-finalists were India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Australia. Indian aggressive opener Virender Sehwag was the highest run-getter with 271 runs while Muttiah Muralitharan took the most wickets, 10. 

2004 ICC Champions Trophy Winner

England organised the Champions trophy for the first time in 2004 and West Indies clinched the title as they beat the hosts in the finals by 2 wickets at the Oval. The competition was conducted in the same format as in 2002 and the USA participated in the event for the first time. England, Australia, Pakistan, and the West Indies were the teams that qualified in the semifinals. Marcus Trescothick became the highest run-scorer with 261 runs in four matches whereas Andrew Flintoff bagged the most wickets (9). 

2006 ICC Champions Trophy Winner

India hosted the 5th edition of the Champions Trophy in 2006. The king of ICC events Australia etched their name on the Champions Trophy winners list by hammering the defending champions West Indies by 8 wickets. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the West Indies reached the semi-finals while India and Pakistan missed out on a berth due to losses in the group stage. The Caribbean players were dominating the event, Chris Gayle scored the most runs (474) and Jerome Taylor picked up the most wickets (13). 

2009 ICC Champions Trophy

The champions of the inaugural edition hosted the Champions Trophy in 2009. In this installment, Australia became the first team to win the Champions Trophy twice on a trot, defeating their Trans Tasman rival New Zealand by 6 wickets riding on Shane Watson’s unbeaten 105. Pakistan and Australia from Group A advanced to the semis while from Group B, England and New Zealand secured their places. Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting was the highest run-getter in the event with 288 runs and Wayne Parnell ended with most wickets, 13. 

2013 ICC Champions Trophy Winner

India won the 2013 Champions Trophy in England with a five-run victory over the hosts in Birmingham, courtesy of incredible bowling by the Indian contingent and captaincy masterclass by MS Dhoni. The Men in Blue was unbeaten throughout the tournament for their exceptional show again and again. South Africa and Sri Lanka were the other semi-finalists. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was in golden form with the bat and scored the most runs, 363 runs in 5 innings. Meanwhile, All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja snared the most wickets with 12 wickets in 5 outings.

2017 ICC Champions Trophy Winner

The ICC hosted the 8th edition of the Champions Trophy in 2017 in England and Wales. This is the first time a country conducted the event two times. Pakistan lifted their maiden trophy after beating the arch-rival India by a huge margin of 180 runs at the Oval. Apart from them, England and Bangladesh made it to the semis. Shikhar Dhawan was the highest run scorer with 338 runs in 5 matches for the 2nd consecutive time on the contrary, Pakistan’s Hasan Ali grabbed the most wickets (13).

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Winner

Tea is the winner of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand where team chased the 251 score and finnaly made 254/6 in 49 overs to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by 4 wickets. Rohit Sharma (76 runs), KL Rahul (34* runs) and Shreyas Iyer (48 runs) played very imporant inning that day.
