Most Wickets in SA20 History

The South Africa Cricket Board organized SA20 is gradually becoming popular since its inception in 2022-23. The total number of participants in the tournament is six and except Indian players, cricketers across the globe take part in the event. After the successful completion of season one, the 2nd edition is running smoothly. If we talk about the bowlers, considering the nature of the pitches in South Africa, it is inevitable that pacers will get advantages and confidence. Let us take you through the bowlers with the most wickets in SA20 history. 

Lungi Ngidi 

One of the regular members of the Proteas side and probably the frontline bowler of Paarl Royals, Lungi Ngidi has taken the most wickets in SA20 history. The strong seamer has played 18 matches and bagged 24 wickets at a decent strike rate of 16.50. 4/39 against Pretoria Capital is his best figure in the event. Ngidi is currently topping the race for the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing season with 13 wickets in 8 matches. 

Ottniel Baartman 

One of the greatest performers in the South African domestic circuit, Ottniel Baartman cements second place on the premium list of most wickets in SA20. Baartman plays for the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and has picked up 22 scalps in 12 outings at a staggering strike rate of 10.77. The Dolphins bowler returned with an intriguing figure of 4/12 against Pretoria Capitals which remained his best in the event. 

Reece Topley 

One of the best left-arm seamers in the shortest format of the game, Reece Topley has rocked the SA20 with his impeccable seam bowling on tight line and length. Featuring 16 games for Durban’s Supergiants, the lanky English fast bowler has snapped 21 wickets. He spends 21 runs for a wicket while taking a wicket in every 16 balls. 

Van Der Merwe 

One of the most experienced players in T20 cricket at the moment, Ven Der Merwe claimed 20 wickets in 10 games, the 4th most in SA20 history. The slow left-arm bowler played for the first-time champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and played an important role in their successful campaign. He recorded a stunning 6/20 against Durban’s Suber Giants in the 2023 edition to hand his team a victory by 124 runs which stayed the best bowling figure in SA20.
