Recently The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) made history by announcing the much-awaited WPL or The Women’s IPL. The women’s IPL will change the course of women’s cricket entirely across the globe. The Indian women cricketers always had to accept less payment due to the unpopularity of the women’s segment of cricket. On 10th December, the auction of the 2nd edition of Revolutionary Women’s IPL was carried out. Several players from all over the world went on breaking the bank to give their services to their respective franchises.
The 2024 Women’s IPL will kickstart with a nail-biting war between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals on 23rd February at Chinnaswamy Stadium Bangalore. While the grand finale will take place in Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on 17th March.
The marquee event for the women’s will last for 24 days with a total of 22 matches on its chart. Only two venues will be used to play all the matches in WPL. The first eleven games till 4th match will be played in Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will host the next eleven matches, including the eliminator and final.
All the games will start at 7.30 PM and no double-headers will be played this season. The top team in the group stage will directly get a place in the finals, however, the 2nd and 3rd positioned teams will fight in the eliminator to seal their place for the penultimate game.
