India Squad for Champions Trophy 2025: On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will begin on February 19th in Karachi. Mohammed Shami, who last played for India in the 2023 World Cup, has made a comeback to the team after staying out for almost 1.5 years due to an ankle injury that required surgery. Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav has also joined Shami on the comeback list after being out of the team since the first test against New Zealand due to a groin injury.
Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue, with Shubman Gill as his deputy. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has shown his batting prowess over the past year, has been added to the squad, despite not having made his ODI debut yet.
India’s spearhead of bowling, Jasprit Bumrah has been included subject to his fitness as he suffered a back spasm during the 5th test against Australia in Sydney. Arshdeep Singh has completed the pace attack while MD Siraj has been left out of the squad.
The selectors have picked up four all-rounders on the team: Hardik Pandya, Rabindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar. Hardik and Jadeja have prior experience in the Champions Trophy while Axar and Sundar will play their first edition.
Experienced cogs Virat, Rahul, Shreyas, and Pant will manage the middle order with Rahul and Pant serving as wicket-keeper options.
India is in Group A with Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, and will open their campaign against Bangladesh on 20th February in Dubai.
