Early lifeJadeja was born on 6 December 1988 in Jamnagar, Gujarat. His father, Anirudhsinh, worked as a watchman for a private security agency, and his mother, Lata, was a nurse.
His father wanted him to join the army, but his mother backed his dream of becoming a cricketer.
He lost his mother in an accident in 2005, when he was a teenager, and nearly gave up cricket in grief.
He played two Under-19 World Cups. In 2006 India finished runners-up, with Jadeja taking three wickets in the final against Pakistan. In 2008 in Malaysia he was Virat Kohli’s vice-captain and won the title, taking 10 wickets at an average of 13.60.
Playing for Saurashtra, he became the first Indian and only the eighth player in history to score three first-class triple centuries.
He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo in February 2009 and scored an unbeaten 60.
He was the Golden Ball winner at the 2013 Champions Trophy, taking 12 wickets as India won the title under MS Dhoni.
In August 2013 he became the No. 1 ranked ODI bowler, the first Indian bowler to top the list since Anil Kumble in 1996. He later also topped the ICC Test bowling and Test all-rounder rankings.
His Test debut came against England in Nagpur in December 2012.
His 175 not out against Sri Lanka at Mohali in March 2022 is the highest Test score by an Indian batting at No. 7 or lower. He took nine wickets in the same match.
