But it took them 17 more years to recognize the contribution and performance of players throughout a year in T20 internationals. In 2021, ICC rewarded Pakistan’s Mohammed Rizwan for the first time for his performance in T20s and Rizwan became the first winner of the ICC T20 Cricketer of the Year. ICC T20 Cricketer of The Year 2021
Star Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman Mohammed Rizwan won the 2021 ICC T20 cricketer of the year award for his golden run with the bat that year. Jos Buttler, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Mitchell Marsh were the other nominees. Rizwan wreaked havoc in T20s with 1326 runs in 26 innings at a staggering average of 73.66. The classy right-hand batter hit 12 fifties and 1 century in this dream year.
Rizwan also played a crucial role to take Pakistan to the semi-final of the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE. The 30 years old notched up 281 runs in 6 innings at a dashing average of 70.25 and a decent strike rate of 127.72.
ICC T20 Cricketer of The Year 2022
Probably the best T20 batsman of the current era, Suryakumar Yadav was destructive and sensational in 2022 with the bat, leading him to get the 2022 ICC T20 cricketer of the year award beating Sikandar Raza, Sam Curran, and Mohammed Rizwan. The Indian flamboyant middle-order batter scored 1164 runs in 31 innings at an impressive average of 45.27, while his strike rate was mind-blowing at 187.43. Surya smacked 2 centuries and 9 fifties in the T20s in 2022.
Not only the bilateral series, but Surya also had a phenomenal 2022 T20 World Cup where he finished as the 3rd highest run-getter with 239 runs in 6 innings, including 3 fifties.
