The World Test Championship is the most desired ICC event after the ODI World Cup. The first edition of the WTC was commenced in 2019 and lasted till 2021. The ongoing season of the WTC is the 2nd installment which started back in 2021 and the final will be played between last-time runners India and Australia from 7th June to 11th June. In these two years, we have witnessed top batters pile up runs and become savior for their team, lets go through the batsmen with the most runs in the World Test Championship, 2021-23.

Joe Root
The highest run-getter of the last WTC circle, English batting stalwart Joe Root tops the chart of most runs in the World Test Championship. Representing his country in 47 games, Joe Root amassed 3987 runs at a captivating average of 50.46. In this period, he hit 12 centuries and 16 fifties with the highest score of 228 against Sri Lanka in Galle which handed England a thumping 7 wickets victory.
Marnus Labuschagne
One of the vital cogs in the present Australian setup, Marnus Labuschagne gets himself in the 2nd spot on the tally of most runs in the World Test Championship with 3579 runs. Possessing an average of 56.80, the right-hand top-order batter has demonstrated consistency against all odds. His tally of mammoth runs is incomplete without 11 centuries and 15 fifties.
Steve Smith
The best test batsman of this generation Steve Smith occupies the 3rd spot on this elite list of most test runs in the World Test Championship. Steeping at No.4 in 38 matches for Australia, the ace has scored 3579 runs, averaging a fantastic 54.50. Though he hammered 9 amazing hundred, his best has been 121 against India in the finals of the 2023 World Test Championship at the Oval.
Ben Stokes
The spearhead of the entertaining English side. Ben Stokes has got himself a place here with his magnificent batting prowess. Being able to play in 40 games, the Southpaw has mustered 3107 runs at a healthy average of 39.85 with the highest score of 176 off 356 balls against West Indies in Manchester in 2020. The veteran batter conferred his heart and soul in almost every inning in this WTC and aided in England’s victory.
Babar Azam
Current Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has made 2535 runs in 26 matches, which is the 5th most runs in the World Test Championship. Babar has been at peak form in the last few years. Having led his team in all matches during this timespan, the ace batsman smashed 15 fifties and 8 hundred. Despite giving his all to his team, Pakistan didn’t get success in this WTC.
