Kieron Pollard Became The Third Player To Hit 6 Sixes In International Cricket

West Indian hard-hitter Kieron Pollard became the third player to hit 6 sixes in international cricket against Sri Lanka at Coolidge Cricket Ground on 4th March. He achieved this feat by smashing 6 sixes in the 5th over of Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya while chasing 132 runs. In the match, Pollard departed after notching up 38 off 11 balls at a magnificent strike-rate of 345.45 off Hasaranga’s ball. 

The first player to smash 6 sixes in an international match was Herschelle Gibbs against the Netherlands off leg-spinner Daan Van Bunge in the 30th over of the ICC 2007 group stage match. In the same year, Yuvraj Singh became 2nd batsman to smack 6 sixes in an international match off Stuart Broad’s ball in the inaugural edition of ICC T20 World Cup at Durban, South Africa. 

Batting first Sri Lanka posted an easy target of 132 runs in 20 overs, as West Indies restricted Lanka with their tight bowling. Obed McCoy took 2 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs, and Kevin, Edwards, Bravo, Allen bagged one wicket apiece. For Sri Lanka, Nissanka made the most number of runs (39 of 34 balls). The Caribbeans chased the score in just 13.1 overs. Despite losing quick wickets Pollard’s 38 off 11 balls assisted Indies to have a thumping win over Sri Lanka by 4 wickets. Warindu Hasaranga shined for Sri Lanka by taking 3/12 in 4 overs.
