Most Wickets For India In T20 World Cup

When we contemplate bowling in T20I cricket, we have to mention the names of the Indian bowlers. Few Indian bowlers are the assets of all three formats. These bowlers have all virtues of a competent T20 bowler like slower deliveries, yorkers, bouncers for pacers and arm ball, pace variations for spinners. India’s 2021 T20 World Cup campaign will begin on 24th October with the clash against Pakistan. Let’s have a look at the bowlers with the most wickets for India in the T20 World Cup.

Most  Wickets For India In T20 World Cup

Ravichandran Ashwin

Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken the most wickets for India in the T20 World Cup with 32 wickets in 24 matches. Ashwin is also the 4th highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is. The Indian management dropped Ashwin from the T20s in 2017 and after a couple of good IPL years he has made it to the Indian squad for this year’s T20 WC. 4 for 11 in the group stage match against Australia in the 2014 T20 WC is the best performance in the event so far.

Ravindra Jadeja

One of the best all-rounders of the current era, Ravindra Jadeja has taken 21 wickets in 22 T20 World Cup matches, which is 2nd most by any Indian in T20 World Cup history. Jadeja is a defensive bowler who is a bit tough to smack for the batsmen. The skipper hands him the ball in order to put a stop in a flowing run stream.  His best performance came against Scotland in the 2021 T20 World Cup, 3/15 in 4 overs.

Irfan Pathan

Former Indian all-rounder and current commentator, Irfan Pathan finds himself in 3rd place in the matter of grabbing the most wickets for India. With a strike rate of 16.10, the left-arm seamer has bagged 16 wickets. Irfan got the Man of the Match award in the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup against Pakistan for his spectacular 3/16 at Johannesburg.

Harbhajan Singh

Ace Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has also secured a position on the list, scalping 16 wickets in 19 T20 WC games for India. The “Turbanator” has bowled the highest number of maiden overs in the history of the T20 World Cup (4). His economy of 6.78 in the World Cup hints about the difficulty of bashing him around the park.

Ashish Nehra

One of the best left-arm fast bowlers of India who retired at the age of 39 from international cricket, Ashish Nehra has taken 15 wickets in 10 matches at a decent average of 17.93. Nehra used to bamboozle the batsman with his swing bowling and variations. He played 5 T20 World Cups for India (2009-2016) but still couldn’t win a trophy as India got eliminated in the knockouts in the previous editions.

RP Singh
